  • FLY STYLE

Do you realize how hard this shot was to get? They say Italy is the country of l’amore – and it is so romantic that my S20 coming in at double macro didn’t disturb these two!

  • MORE FUN WITH THE NIKON COOLPIX IR
So you know you can turn the lens around and see yourself in the LCD… and that allows you to do the coolest self portraits. In fact what is really cool is the eyes – how they become wolf-like. In regular film IR, most of the time photographers put a red filter over the lens to increase contrast… you don’t need to do this with photoshop because you can simply increase the contrast later. This allows you to see everything – including the eyes… so people don’t look like space martians. I have never liked how the iris’s go black on regular IR because it makes the brides look like stepford wife robots. How did that movie do anyway? I never saw it.

  • GREAT WEDDING IMAGE FOR MY PORTFOLIO

This was shot with my COOLPIX 990 converted to infrared… I heard a
bunch of honking and the wedding photographer in me steadied my camera
and zoomed along with the limo… I love this shot.  It was about
90 today in Nice and BEAUTIFUL – tomorrow I move into my apartment in
Villefranche!  I remember earlier in this journal I said the south
of France was the most beautiful place in the world, but I say that
about every where I see for the first time (I’ll say that about Venice,
Italy in about three weeks) but what was remarkable was I said that
there were no ties for first place.  Coming back again after three
months away is even better… this area is just magical.  If I
could just speak the darn language I would really feel at home
    here.  Oh oh!

Here’s where I will be tomorrow:
this language school is going to ROCK.  click here for the school’s website…

  • The CornerStone Albums Site is now LIVE! Check out the new site! click here!

I MADE A HUGE ERROR when sending out the original email! I didn’t put the link from the mail to the Cornerstone website – DUH. Well I was packing and thinking I might not have good internet access in France (although I stayed at this hotel in April and it had high speed) anyway so I did the mailing while packing and I messed it up. I’m pretty good at this stuff usually! So please forgive me for sending out the announcement, this time with links!

  • DIGITAL INFRARED PORTRAIT WITH THE NEWLY FAB’D NIKON COOLPIX 990 – it
works. I like it. What do you think?  This was a self portrait
taken by my friend Terry Reimer with the 990 that she helped me
convert.  Just taken on regular program mode, but with the
modifications to the 990 that allows it to shoot IR only.

  • TODAY
I MADE AN INFRARED CAMERA – out of a Nikon 990.  I replaced the IR
filter inside the COOLPIX with clear glass and a #87 filter in front to
create the results below. It took ALL DAY (which now leaves me one day
to pack for an entire month away) – but you know what? It’s worth it!
Because now I can show YOU how to take a COOLPIX 990 (that you can find
on ebay for about $250) and turn it into a screaming infrared machine!
To find out how to do it…

  • DI CHICAGO IMAGES!
We had a great group, and it was a great day for shooting.  Here
we were playing with “rear curtain sync” and the students learned how
easy it was to create this cool look!

Then we did some cross-processing images –

Then we went outside and did some digital infrared -

The students soon discovered that you can swivel the 990 Coolpix around
to see yourself in the LCD – and yes, the result was freaky:

Check out these IR shots by DI student Terry:

Here’s a shot of DI Student Larry, shot on the 50mm f1.4 at wide open, black and white mode:

  • IT’S GOING TO BE WORTH THE WAIT – I’ve
been working on a revolutionary new software/album binding solution
that is going to integrate my popular PowerConsole™ Album Design
Software with a choice of really innovative album solutions.
Imagine producing a remarkable quality Fine-Art style digital album
-OR- a traditional (with a twist) leather or brushed metallic album… at
a lower cost than I’ve seen on the market yet and surpassing my
persnickity standards for the highest in quality.   Some of
you who have been to recent workshops have seen the samples, and a few
of you have even begun receiving these as-yet-to-be-announced
products.  I’m trying like mad to get the complete software up and
running before I leave for a month in August… and if it isn’t up by
then – I will still be connected to the web from my apartment in France
but we gotta get this sucker launched!
I will be bringing samples to the DIGITAL INTENSIVE workshops coming to
Chicago (next week) Buffalo (week after that) and Denver (in
September).  Sorry I won’t be at the PPA National Convention
    because I’ll be in Buffalo…

My dream is to make the PowerConsole™ product even easier to use and
more integrated.  It’s already the leader in creativity and ease
of use… now I have to make the product finish the last part of the
puzzle… thus the name “Cornerstone™”.  For more info on my
PowerConsole™ Digital Album Designer… please click here won’t you?
